The Travelers Insurance Company operates one of the largest and most sophisticated forensic groups in the country. Our team of engineers and scientists use a diverse array of technical disciplines and experiences to help answer complicated technical questions related to fires, explosions, vehicle accidents, injuries and other losses that impact our business. If you are looking for a routine laboratory or office based position then this is definitely not the job for you. However, if you enjoy a variety of assignments, have at least five years of experience as a materials scientist/metallurgical engineer, know your way around laboratory testing, can communicate in an articulate manner, and have a demonstrated ability to work on a team, then this position is for you. You will be investigating the failure of materials used in large commercial and construction applications to consumer products. You will have access to analytical techniques including SEM, EDS, metallography, optical microscopy, micro-hardness testing, GCMS, FTIR, and x-ray imaging.

Experience as a Forensic Expert is desirable, but not necessary as we will provide in-depth training and education to the right candidate. Some travel is required and this position is located in Windsor, CT. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

The successful candidate will have::

·         At least a four-year degree in Materials Science/Metallurgical Engineering or related degree.

·         A minimum of five years of experience

·         Candidate must have the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly, both verbally and in writing.

·         Participation in specific industry standards organizations (NFPA, ACS, ASME, ASM, NACE etc.) and a familiarity with codes, industry standards and testing protocols is considered a plus
