BP Biofuels is developing a
program of capital investments to grow its Global
Biofuels business. The capital investment plan
will be a series of projects (green field,
commercial scale plants and the supporting
agriculture development), selected and sequenced
to take advantage of the biggest influences on
returns; ability to secure feedstock; and to
enable synergies across projects. The nature of
the growth of BP Biofuels and the agriculture
development component of the investment make
these projects different than any other projects
conducted in BP. This is a program of specific
investments that will occur over a long period of
time across multiple locations, rather than a
single project. Each investment will correspond
with Biofuels development plan, agriculture
production growth, organization capability, and
effect.

BP is a leading player in the global biofuels
market. In the US, BP blended and distributed
more than 1 billion US gallons of ethanol in
2008. Since 2006, BP has announced investments of
more than $2 billion in biofuels research,
development and operations, and has announced
investments in production facilities in Europe,
Brazil and the US. This includes partnerships
with other companies to develop the technologies,
feedstocks and processes required to produce
advanced biofuels, and $500 million over 10 years
in the Energy Biosciences Institute (EBI), at
which biotechnologists are investigating
applications of biotechnology to energy.
Procurement and Supply Chain Management (PSCM) is
the process by which BP purchases goods and
services from the external marketplace with the
aim of maximising value to the business. Helping
ensure we always have the right product, from the
right supplier, at the right time and at the
right price. This covers everything from office
stationery and the stock in our convenience
stores to major infrastructure construction
projects, offshore structures and world-scale
manufacturing sites. BP spends over $60 billion
on non-hydrocarbon goods and services each year,
so managing this spend effectively is core to the
companys success.

Company Profile
Our business is the
exploration, production, refining, trading and
distribution of energy. This is what we do, and
we do it on a truly global scale. With a
workforce of 80,000 employees, BP operates with
business activities and customers in more than 80
countries across six continents. Every day, we
serve millions of customers around the world. We
are continually looking for talented, committed
and ambitious people to help us shape the face of
energy for the future.
At BP Alternative Energy
we're investing in new ways of providing energy -
from innovative new solar and wind businesses to
advanced biofuels and clean energy technologies
such as the capture and storage of carbon dioxide
from traditional fossil fuels. These will provide
customers with clean, secure energy - and they
will shape the evolution of the global energy
industry in the coming decades.
In
Biofuels, our business in conventional products
such as bio-ethanol is already substantial,
accounting for about 10% of the world market.
However, as well as providing today's biofuels,
we're also developing tomorrow's. We are
investing $500 million over 10 years in the
Energy Biosciences Institute to explore options
for advanced biofuels and other applications of
biotechnology to energy.
