Job Description:
Role:
Responsible for assuring the continuous supply and timely
procurement of
higher dollar value commodities that require extensive
purchasing
experience, knowledge, professionalism and administration
while providing
optimum levels of cost, quality, inventory, and
reliability of source to the
company.
Responsibilities:
Achieve and maintain a thorough knowledge of assigned
commodities.
Establish, maintain, and re-evaluate reliable sources of
supply that promote
appropriate competition while ensuring consistent supply.
Utilize all available sources to determine market trends
that have an effect
on prices. Make and implement recommendations for action.
Obtain competitive bids and award purchase orders and/or
blankets on the
basis of greatest value to the company, commensurate with
quality standards
and delivery capabilities.
Maintain knowledge of new materials, services, and
techniques by attending
seminars, trade shows, and visiting suppliers.
Manage inventory levels of assigned commodities to ensure
availability of
while improving inventory turnover.
Lead intra- and interdepartmental cross-functional teams
where procurement
leadership is essential.
Negotiate complex and/or high dollar supplier contracts.
Originate and facilitate the adoption and use of
leading-edge material
management and procurement best practices (i.e.,
electronic commerce, lean
manufacturing technologies, etc.)
Continuously improve the companies competitiveness by
locating new sources
of supply, alternative material and process and staying
on the "leading
edge" of purchasing technology
Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements:
Bachelor Degree in Business or equivalent.
A minimum of five (5) years procurement experience in a
manufacturing
environment.
Experience working in an ERP/MRP manufacturing
environment.
C.P.M. and/or C.P.I.M. preferred.
Proficient in all phases of inventory management and
processes.
Proficient negotiating skills.
Computer skills required, including Microsoft Office.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to function in a team environment.
Excellent time management skills.
Strong organizational and planning skills.
Job Family Responsibilities:
Performs the monitoring of complex materials through the
production cycle.
Completes and maintains reports; analyzes supplier
capability; make/buy
studies and cost analyses. Completes integrated project
plans and schedules
for the supply teams capital and development projects;
implements short and
long-range inventory and logistics strategies. Completes
the effectiveness
evaluation of current material control standards.
Completes the planning and
coordination of new product introductions; assesses the
impact and supports
changes to overall production schedules. Performs
research, evaluates and
recommends solutions to complex inventory issues;
negotiates issues related
to materials and logistics.
Key Responsibilities:
Performs full range of standard work for the professional
field. Refers
complex, unusual problems to others. Identifies and
resolves more complex
problems and applies problem-solving skills in order to
deal with most
situations.
Education:
Typically BS/BA in related discipline or advanced degree.
Certification may
be required in some areas.
Knowledge and Experience:
Demonstrates and applies a broad knowledge of field of
specialization
through successful completion of moderately complex
assignments.
Successfully applies complex knowledge of fundamental
concepts, practices,
and procedures of particular area of specialization.
Demonstrates knowledge
of organizations business practices and issues. Typically
5-8 years of
successful experience in related field and successful
demonstration of Key
Responsibilities and Knowledge as presented above.
Advanced degree MAY be
substituted for experience, where applicable.
Direction of Others:
Provides general guidance or train support and/or
professional staff.
